Privacy Policy

The short version
We only collect the data that we have to, and we will never sell information on to a third party. Here's what we collect:
- Browsing the site. If you accept analytics cookies, then data is collected on which pages were clicked during your visit – no personal data is available to us. You can say no, and change your mind later. We use no advertising cookies.
- Contacting us. What you type into the form, so we can reply. We keep a copy for three years, then delete your details.
- Buying or leasing. We only store data that's necessary to take payment, deliver the product and honour the warranty. Your card details go straight to Stripe – they never touch our systems.
The details are below. If anything here is unclear, then please ask us – the contact details are in the next section.
Who we are
unicook.eu is run by Unicook, a trading name of Sensia SARL, 191 Avenue Olivier Heuzé, 72000 Le Mans, France (SIREN 891 736 621, RCS Le Mans). Sensia SARL is the data controller for this website: we decide what personal information is collected here and why, and we are responsible to you for it.
For anything about your personal information – a question, a request or a complaint – email contact@unicook.eu, or write to us at the address above.
Our French site (unicook.fr) is also run by Sensia SARL. Our UK site (unicook.co.uk) is run by a separate company, Unicook Ltd, and has its own privacy notice.
What data we collect, and why
When you browse the site
Our website is hosted on Cloudflare. Cloudflare processes your IP address and basic request information to serve pages and to protect the site from attacks and abuse. This happens on every visit, and the site cannot work safely without it.
When you first arrive, the site may suggest a version for your region – for example, the German or Dutch pages. To do that it asks Cloudflare which country your connection comes from. Only the country is used, and we don’t store it.
Beyond that, we collect nothing about your browsing unless you accept analytics cookies. See Cookies below.
When you fill in a form
Our forms – a general enquiry form, a quote request, a presentation booking and a “call me back” box – ask for information that helps us respond: your name, email address, phone number, your organisation, the sector you work in, which product you’re interested in and the quantity, when you’d prefer to meet, how you heard about us, and whatever you write in the message box.
Warranty registration asks for more information: your postal address, the date you bought the product, how many of each model you have, your order number, and up to ten photographs of the installation.
The alarm recipients form, for connected stove guards, asks who should be alerted and when: up to five mobile numbers and five email addresses, the “unusual hours” during which an attempt to cook should trigger an alert, and how many days without cooking should prompt one. These settings say something about the daily routine of the person the stove guard protects, so we use them only to set up and run their alerts.
If you give us someone else’s details – a site contact on a warranty registration, or the people on an alarm recipients form – please make sure they are happy for you to. We use those details only for that installation, and if they ask us where we got them, we’ll tell them.
Forms are emailed to our inbox through Resend, our email delivery provider.
We also keep a copy of every form you send, in a database on our website. It holds everything you entered, plus the page you sent it from, the date, the country your connection came from, and whether our email about it was delivered. If you attach photographs, we keep only their file names and sizes – the photographs themselves go to our inbox and are not stored in the database. We keep this copy so that an enquiry is not lost if an email goes astray, and so we can count how many enquiries each form receives over time.
After three years we delete your details from that copy. What remains is an anonymous count – which form, which page, when, and the country – that cannot be traced back to you.
We will not add you to a marketing or mailing list just because you sent us an enquiry. If we ever think it would help to share your details with someone else, we will ask you for permission first.
When you buy or lease a stove guard
At the checkout we ask for your email address and delivery address, and you enter your card details into a payment form provided by Stripe.
Your card details never reach us. The payment fields are Stripe’s, not ours, and the card number goes directly to Stripe. We can’t see it at any point.
After a successful payment we only keep the bare minimum of information: the amount, the currency, what you ordered, the date, the language you ordered in, and a reference number that points at Stripe. We do not store your name, email address or postal address in our own order database – those stay with Stripe, and we look them up when we need them. Leasing works the same way, with a record of the subscription, its monthly rate and its status.
Stripe runs automated fraud checks on payments and may decline one. If that happens and you think it’s wrong, contact us and a person, not a machine, will look at it.
Our legal grounds for using your information
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) only lets us use your information where we have a legal ground for it. Ours are:
| What we do | Why we’re allowed to |
|---|---|
| Reply to your enquiry, quote request, presentation booking or callback request | Legitimate interests – you asked us to get in touch, and we need your details to do so |
| Keep a copy of the forms you send, and count them over time | Legitimate interests – so an enquiry isn’t lost if an email fails, and so we know which forms people use |
| Take payment, deliver your order, honour the warranty, set up alarm alerts | Contract – we cannot provide what you bought without it |
| Keep order and payment records for tax and accounting | Legal obligation – French accounting law requires it |
| Protect the site from attack, spam and fraud | Legitimate interests – keeping the site working and ensure that orders are genuine |
| Analytics | Consent – only if you accept, and you can withdraw it at any time |
Where we rely on legitimate interests, we have considered whether it is fair to you. If you disagree, you can object – see Your rights.
Cookies and similar technologies
Things you cannot turn off
- Your basket. Stored in your own browser’s local storage, not in a cookie, and never sent to us until you check out.
- Your region choice. If you dismiss or accept the regional-site suggestion, your browser remembers that so we don’t ask again.
- Stripe’s fraud-prevention cookies These are set when the checkout loads, to detect fraudulent payments.
- Your cookie choice itself – so we don’t ask again on every page.
Analytics – only with your consent
When you first visit, we ask whether you’ll accept analytics cookies. If you decline, nothing is sent to Google Analytics. If you accept, we use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to see how many people visit, which pages they read, roughly where in the world they are, what kind of device they use, and how they found us. It sets the cookies, which we limit to 13 months.
We use it for statistics about the site, and nothing else. We don’t use it for advertising: the site tells Google on every page that advertising storage and ad personalisation are refused, and we don’t combine it with any advertising tools.
Analytics data is pseudonymous, not anonymous: it isn’t labelled with your name, but it is tied to an identifier that distinguishes your visits from other people’s. We don’t try to work out who you are from it, and we don’t allow Google to either.
Changing your mind
Use the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page, at any time. Withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it, and stops any further collection. We ask again after six months. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser, though parts of the site may work less well.
Video
Some pages embed YouTube videos. They don’t play until you click, and we use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode, so YouTube doesn’t set cookies unless you actually watch. On some pages the preview image is served by Google, which means Google receives your IP address when the page loads.
External sites
This notice covers unicook.eu only. Where we link to another site, that site’s own privacy notice applies.
Who we share it with
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We share it only with organisations that do a specific job for us, under contract, and only what they need:
| Who | What they do | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Stripe | Takes payment, holds customer and card details | Ireland / USA |
| Cloudflare | Hosts the site and its databases (orders and form copies), protects it from attack | Global |
| Resend | Delivers form notifications and order emails | USA |
| Analytics (only if you accept) and video previews | USA | |
| Our delivery carrier | Delivers your order | Europe |
The carrier receives only what is needed to deliver the parcel – the name, address and phone number – and nothing else.
We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or to establish or defend a legal claim.
Sending information outside the European Union
Some of the providers above are based outside the European Economic Area, mostly in the United States. When information goes there, we rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework where the provider is certified under it, and otherwise on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses. You can ask us for details of the safeguards in place.
How long we keep it
| What | How long | Why |
|---|---|---|
| The copy of each form kept on our website | 3 years from when you send it, then reduced to an anonymous count | Long enough to follow up, and to cover the extended warranty for registered products |
| Enquiries and our emails with you | 3 years from our last contact | Long enough to pick up a conversation, not indefinitely |
| Order and lease records | 10 years from the end of the financial year | French accounting law (Code de commerce, art. L123-22) |
| Warranty registrations | 3 years from the purchase date | The length of the warranty that registering activates |
| Analytics data | 14 months, then deleted by Google | Long enough to compare one year with the last |
| Your cookie choice | 6 months, then we ask again |
When a retention period ends, we delete the information or strip it of anything that identifies you.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to:
- Know what we hold about you and get a copy of it
- Correct anything inaccurate
- Erase it, where we have no continuing reason to hold it
- Restrict how we use it while a concern is being resolved
- Object to any use we justify by legitimate interests
- Move it to another provider in a portable format
- Withdraw consent at any time, where you gave it – including for analytics
- Give instructions about what happens to your data after your death, as French law allows
Email contact@unicook.eu or use our contact form, and we’ll respond within one month. These rights are free to exercise.
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, please tell us first so we can fix it. You can also complain to the French data protection authority, the CNIL (cnil.fr), or to the data protection authority of the country you live in. If you live in Switzerland, the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) is the authority for you.
Keeping it safe
The site is served over HTTPS throughout. Card details are handled by Stripe and never stored by us. Our own order records are deliberately built to hold no names, email addresses or postal addresses – only totals and references – so that if they were ever compromised, there is little there to expose. The copies of forms you send are the exception, because they are what you wrote to us; they are cleared on the schedule above. Access to order data and form copies is restricted to staff who need it.
If a breach ever put your rights at risk, we would tell you and the CNIL as the law requires.
Children
This site is aimed at adults – families, landlords, care providers and construction professionals. We don’t knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to this notice
We review this notice regularly and whenever we change how the site works.
